I’m Ashley Hope, the maker behind The Scarlet Thread — a quiet practice in lace, detail, and design. Rooted in the heritage craft of tatting, this work is my way of exploring slow beauty and the art of making something lasting by hand.

I didn’t grow up in a family of lace makers. I came to tatting as an adult, drawn to its quiet beauty and intricate rhythm — the way each loop and knot must be made slowly, with intention. As someone who balances a full-time career, family, and creative work, I’ve come to see tatting as both meditation and refuge.

In a world that often demands speed and constant output, this craft invites stillness. A pattern unfolds knot by knot. A mistake becomes a new design. There’s no shortcut, and no algorithm to please. Just thread, time, and care.

Through The Scarlet Thread, I share handmade lace jewellery, accessories, and tatting patterns inspired by nostalgia and timeless elegance. I also offer tutorial videos and workshops to help others discover the quiet joy of this delicate craft.
